Tokyo-based Samurai Factory announced that they have donated a total of over 70,000 manga and picture books throughout the areas affected by the earthquake/tsunami of March 11th in Tohoku Japan.
Samurai Factory announced that they have completed delivery of over 70,000 manga and picture books to affected areas in the northeastern Tohoku region of Japan, which was most affected by the earthquake/tsunami of March 11th. The campaign began with an appeal to users of their Ninja Tools family of services in early-mid April, and with the assistance of many non-profit and volunteer organizations they were able to deliver the collected books to areas where the displaced and affected youth could be reached. Destinations included evacuation centers, temporary housing and library facilities in addition to regional schools.

Company president Kenichi Kashiwagi explains the motivation behind the campaign. "At the time of the earthquake and tsunami in March, we knew that there would be great instability in the lives of the people of Tohoku. Through the power of manga we aimed to provide a means for those affected to unwind and find some peace of mind." Kashiwagi says that the initial goal was to collect 20,000 books, but due to the intense response they were able to collect over 70,000 books from all across Japan, and that books arrived from each of the 47 prefectures of Japan and from China and Korea as well.
Service matches manga artists with prospective advertising clients to create advertisements in a manga style
TOKYO, Japan (April 15, 2010) – Web services company Samurai Factory announced the release of Manga Ad (http://manga-ad.shinobi.jp/), an advertising service to crowdsource design requests for clients desiring a manga style for their ad campaign.

The service will make appeals for ad designs for prospective clients, and designs selected will receive Ninja Points for use in the Ninja Tools family of services, as well as compete with each other for prize money based on the ranking of click-through rate (CTR) for selected designs. Prize money will vary based on the scale of the campaign.

Company President Kenji Ito comments, “We have found that having manga designs in advertising campaigns create a deeper connection between the user and the product or service being advertised. This has been clearly demonstrated to us through testing manga/non-manga versions to our users and the manga versions have been much more successful.”

Ito also believes that aspiring manga artists will welcome the chance for more freelance work. “By crowdsourcing the ad designs to our users, we feel we are providing an opportunity for manga artists to hone their skills while being able to earn some income in the process.”

The initial release of Manga Ad will be restricted to campaigns restricted to Japan, but plans include expanding coverage to global campaigns in the near future.
